- Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) Training – Video Story
It could be a tornado. A radiation threat. A transportation system incident. Or an influenza epidemic. Such multiple casualty incidents (MCIs) are all emergencies that can be disastrous for hospitals and the community they serve. The federal government developed the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and they are now requiring it to be used in emergency management, including by hospitals. NIMS recognizes the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), now in its fourth iteration, as an appropriate approach under the unified system NIMS creates. Jonathan Best, Emergency Management Specialist at the Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response, recently led a two-day training session at St. Alexius Medical Center in North Dakota.
