Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) Training – Video Story
It could be a tornado, a radiation threat, a transportation system incident or an influenza epidemic. Such multiple casualty incidents (MCIs) are all emergencies that can be disastrous for hospitals and the community they serve. The federal government developed the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and is requiring it to be used in emergency management, including by hospitals and health systems. NIMS recognizes the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), now in its fourth iteration, as an appropriate approach under the unified system NIMS creates. The Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response led a two-day training session at St. Alexius Medical Center in North Dakota. View video and read text from this event here.
